Our firewood carries Ready to Burn certification. For firewood sold in volumes below two cubic metres, this confirms that the logs have a moisture content of 20% or less.

Properly dried logs light more readily, produce less smoke and burn more efficiently than wet wood. When ordering, look for the Ready to Burn logo and certification information displayed with the firewood on the Blakes Logs website.

Our logs are naturally air dried rather than kiln dried. They are seasoned and stored undercover until they meet the required Ready to Burn moisture standard.

The drying method matters less than the condition of the firewood when it reaches you. Proper seasoning reduces the moisture held within the wood, helping the logs light more easily and produce a more reliable fire.

Our firewood usually contains a mixed selection of locally sourced hardwoods and softwoods. Species can include oak, elm, ash, maple, fruit wood, hornbeam, beech, sycamore and cedar.

The exact mixture can vary because the timber comes from arboricultural work and responsible woodland management across Essex and Suffolk. We cannot guarantee that every delivery will contain a particular species unless this has been agreed before ordering.

Our seasoned logs are suitable for wood-burning stoves, log burners and open fires where the appliance and local regulations allow wood to be burned.

Always follow the fuel guidance supplied by the manufacturer of your stove or fireplace. The correct log size is also important, particularly for appliances with a smaller firebox. If you need shorter logs, check the available sizes before ordering.

Wood can only be burned in a smoke control area under the permitted conditions. In most cases, this means using a DEFRA-exempt appliance and following the manufacturer’s instructions about the fuels it can burn.

Ready to Burn certification confirms that the firewood meets the relevant moisture standard, but it does not remove the rules that apply to the appliance or property. Check whether you live in a smoke control area before using an open fire or wood-burning stove.

Different log and load sizes are available through the Blakes Logs website. The right option will depend on how regularly you use your fire, the size of your log store and the dimensions of your stove or fireplace.

Store firewood somewhere dry, covered and well ventilated. The logs should be kept off the ground where possible, with enough airflow around the stack to prevent moisture becoming trapped.

A purpose-built log store with a roof and open sides works well. Avoid sealing logs inside an unventilated shed or covering the entire stack tightly with plastic. Good storage helps the firewood remain dry and ready to use after delivery.
